A trip to Mercy Hospital

The day we have dreaded has arrived, Kristina's Fontan surgery,(3rd heart surgery).
The last step in the Fontan Procedure: The lowwer Vena Cava will be attached to the Upper Vena Cava,
which was previously attached to the Pulmonary Artery which then goes directly to the lungs.
When they attach the Upper & Lower Vena Cava they build a tunnel with Gortex and heart membrane. The surgeon added a 3mm blow off hole in the Gortex, in case of to much pressure.

After the Fontan, blood will flow directly to the lungs without being pumped by the heart.

We left home at 4:30am, got signed in at 5:30.
They took Kristina away crying 7:00am, that was hard.
They put all the lines in at 7:30am, they estimated a 6 hour surgery.
They put her on the Heart/Lung Machine, and stopped her heart at 8:18am.
They just took her off the Heart/lung Machine at 10:50am.
They are giving her a Echo and if that goes good the will try and close.
They hope to take her to the PICU in an hour after they close.

That would be more like a 3.5hr surgery.
